The concluding conference was held on 30th of July 2020 through Zoom conference platform. this activity gathered more than 50 participants mostly professionals from public institutions, representatives of NGO sectors, researchers, students and lecturers.
Mr. Gledis Gjipali, European Movement Albania first introduced the objective of the EU Integration Series and the results this series achieved such as: offered a space of discussion and communication among professionals; sharing the experience of Greece, Bulgaria and Romania when it comes to accession process and informing more on EU related issues focused on socio-economic context. Afterward he discussed about the need to include non-state actors in Albania’s EU negotiations process, as essential actors to contribute and to be informed on this process.
Dr. Ioannis Armakolas, ELIAMEP spoke about the Western Balkan’s accession process. He took as example the Greece integration, even though it may seem as a different case, still lessons can be learned. Greece membership, the obstacles and the ongoing need to undertake reforms shows to us that European Integration is a long way. Dr. Armakolas gave a full picture of the Greek case, the economy, history and political crisis. This, to keep in mind as lessons that might be useful in the near future. Another important part of discussion was the new enlargement methodology and the scenarios for Albania’s integration. In the end, he acknowledged as very important the level of participation of civil society in this process.
