On Europe Day (May 9), Gledis Gjipali/Executive Director of EMA was on Panorama TV to talk about Albania’s path towards EU membership. He stated that regarding the reforms that Albania is carrying out in terms of legislation and implementation, more work is required in the fight against organized crime and corruption. He added that in matters related the rule of law, the majority of work is done by the central government, institutions and the whole society, whereas in economic matters, the EU has the right instruments to help. Referring to the experience of Croatia as the last country that joined the EU, Gjipali added that if we move with the right speed Albania will need at least 8-9 years to join EU. He added that over 80% of the Albanian citizens support the EU membership of our country but a large part does not have enough information about the costs and benefits. Lastly, he pointed out that the activities that will be organized with regards to Europe Day are focused towards business, environment and innovation.
