On 21 November 2016, Ms. Mona Xhexhaj, policy researcher of European Movement Albania was interviewed by a national TV program, in regard with the latest proposal of the European Commission for the establishment of the European System of Information and Travel Authorisation (ETIAS). What is the purpose of this electronic instrument and what provides? Does it affect the non citizens of EU who travel without visas into the Schengen area? Xhexhaj said that this new proposal from the Commision requires that before travelling, all the people with visa free status wishing to travel in the Schengen Area should register and verify their data via an electronic system (ETIAS). The new instrument is not visa and according to experts it is considered to be an easy, free and practical system. “However, this is only a proposal from the Commission, as the Council hasn’t approved it yet, although it has been widely welcomed by the ministers, as long as it will serve to the border security and that of the EU citizens,”Ms.Xhexaj said.
