Human Rights in the light of Albanian's future accession to EU
The European Movement Albania in the framework of the project "Supporting to the network of EU Info Points in the University towns of Albania", supported by EC Delegation to Albania organized on 14 April in the premises of the University "Ismail Qemali", Vlore one public lecture with the Royal Danish Ambassador to Albania H. E Mr. Karsten Ankjaer Jensen.
During his speech, Ambassador underlined that Albania has a long path towards accession to European Union. According to the Ambassador Jensen "Corruption is still one of the major problem of the Albanian society". The high level of corruption and the organized crimes are the main obstacles for Albania to attract foreign investments. Furthermore, the Ambassador stressed out "As long as the laws are not taken in consideration, not implemented properly, the corruption and informality will still be evident, Albania will not transmit the right message to the members of the European Union".
Regarding the visa liberalization process, Ambassador Jensen expressed that: "the visa regime that already exists has not been removed because Albania has not yet fulfilled the standards for visa free regime with EU".
Concerning the possible application of Albania for EU membership Ambassador Jensen stressed out that Albania is facing the lack of administrative capacity as a result of political changes despite the fact that international community has spent lots of funds in order to increase the administrative capacities. Mr. Jensen also emphased that European Integration process requires concrete measure and not words since is not a lottery. Albania must show that has at least 1000 qualified persons working in civil service who should perfectly know the different chapters of Acquis Communitaire, on which the negotiations will be discussed in the future between Albania and EU.
In the end of his speech, Ambassador Jensen came up to the students of Vlora University with the words "with your vote you have to say No to the corruption, informality, the unfair justice, and crony appointments. This is the only way to improve things".
