Summer Programmes, July 2012 - College of Europe, Brugge

What better time than on the celebration of Europe Day tomorrow to think about deepening your knowledge in EU affairs? The College of Europe will be welcoming professionals from all over the world who will gather in Bruges during the month of July to learn about the European Union in a challenging and inspiring environment. While its flagship training course – the Intensive Seminar on the EU and its 3 formulas of one, two or three weeks – will be taking place for the 19th year in a row, the College of Europe will be also launching the first edition of the Advanced EU Law professional training programme.

Intensive Seminar on the EU - 19th Edition
The economic and financial crisis in the EU is the chosen focus of the one-week formula (9-13 July) of the 2012 Intensive Seminar on the EU. Participants will have the opportunity to intensively discuss the topic and explore the consequences of the crisis on the EU institutions and selected policies with high-level speakers and economists.
Professionals attending the two-week (9-20 July) and three-week (2-20 July) courses will have the chance to tailor their training curriculum to their professional needs and personal interests. The course, in addition, includes study visits to the EU institutions, and skills-sessions, such as a simulation of real-life Council negotiations. All the participants will be sharing lively evening panel discussions on hot EU topics, such as \\\\\\\"20TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE MAASTRICHT TREATY: WHERE DOES THE POLITICAL EU NOW STAND?, WAYS OUT OF THE EUROPEAN ECONOMIC AND FINANCIAL CRISIS?\\\\\\\", etc. The success of this Seminar relies not only on the high-level academics and practitioners selected as speakers, but also on the forum offered for experience-sharing among the participants, who come from a variety of professional backgrounds and countries.

Advanced EU Law - Conquer the legal complexities of the EU
The Advanced EU Law training programme provides its participants with a professional guide to EU law and practice, and essential tools to enhance the professional skills necessary to master legal complexities and overcome challenges in the workplace. Using a variety of effective methodologies, course structures and a “LEARNING-BY-DOING” approach confronting theory with practice, this training programme offers realistic simulations and role plays adapted to the participants’ professional positions to bridge the gap between classroom learning and performance on the job. Get a fresh insight into the most recent developments in key domains of the EU’s legal framework: the first week module is on Institutional reform process (2-6 July), and choose between Internal Market or EU Competition Law for the second week (9-13 July). Focusing on fluency, accuracy, confidence and communication skills, the programme has a greater impact on the participants’ profiles thus increasing motivation and efficiently improving professional skills.

Discounts
The College of Europe offers a series of discounts on the fees, including a special discount for organisations providing the opportunity for 5 or more of their employees to take part in any of those summer courses.
