EMA shares with you the key findings of the nationwide survey conducted in the framework of the project “Exploring the Impact of visa liberalisation on people’s mobility”, supported by Balkan Trust for Democracy. The main findings were presented and discussed during the conference “How does visa-free travel in the Schengen area affect Albanian citizens?”, held in Tirana on 27 April 2011.
The key findings of the survey focus on the effects of relaxed regulation concerning people’s movement in the Schengen area and the propensity for temporary or permanent migration flows. The analysis strives to shed some light on the composition of the outflow of people toward the Schengen area after visa liberalisation, regarding short term travel, migration patterns, socio-demographic profiles, reasons of undertaking travels or migration and the geography of origin. The goal is to draw a first balance sheet of visa liberalisation as well as to provide recommendations on policy options for relevant actors to keep visa-liberalisation a success story.
