ABC News Albania – Meetings in Brussels, a Positive Indicator / Deliu: Albania, Reforms in Record Time, 17 September 2025

Invited to ABC News, Nirvana Deliu, European Integration Expert at the European Movement in Albania (EMA), first commented on Albania’s Euro-Atlantic path, referring to the meeting held in Brussels on 17 September between Prime Minister Edi Rama and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte. This meeting took place as a result of Russia’s aggression in Ukraine, but also to reaffirm the support given to our country ahead of the NATO Summit to be held in 2027. Albania remains an important ally, together with North Macedonia, within NATO, while other countries in the region are not yet members, Deliu emphasized. The fact that the next NATO Summit will take place here is highly significant.

Continuing, she also spoke about the change in the EU’s methodology for opening negotiation chapters. From the gradual opening pursued by some countries, the process has now shifted to opening in clusters, from which Albania has also benefited—showing a new dynamic in the process. According to her, Albania’s progress continues to be closely monitored by the European Commission, while the holding of Albania-EU intergovernmental conferences is part of this monitoring.
