Ora News – Tirana brought Europe together / Deliu: Albania could join the EU before 2030, May 19, 2025

In an interview with Ora News, Nirvana Deliu, Expert at the European Movement in Albania (EMA), offered a critical yet hopeful analysis of the outcomes from the European Political Community (EPC) Summit. She highlighted that during the high-level meetings, expectations were communicated that EU accession negotiations could be concluded by 2027, provided that key reforms are sustained.

Deliu emphasized that the summit’s focus on a specific theme this year marks a turning point for Europe as a continent and for the European Union as a political union. “It’s time for the EU to re-evaluate itself and reflect on the challenges it has faced—many of which it has struggled to manage effectively,” she said, adding that without political cooperation, the EU cannot fully live up to its role as a global pillar of democracy.

She also noted a growing pro-enlargement sentiment, particularly within the European Commission, where new leadership has brought a shift in rhetoric and greater technical engagement in monitoring and evaluation processes. However, Deliu cautioned that political hurdles may still arise, especially from the European Parliament and the European Council, which remain influential actors capable of slowing or blocking the enlargement process.
