A2 CNN – “EU Accession alongside Montenegro,” Gjipali: Our Reforms help us, we must intensify efforts, October 22, 2025

Gledis Gjipali, Executive Director of the European Movement in Albania (EMA), was a guest on A2 CNN to discuss the European Union’s readiness to admit new members, including Albania, even under a framework without veto rights. He emphasized that maintaining positive progress is essential and that Albania must continue and intensify its efforts to achieve the ultimate goal — EU membership by 2030. Gjipali noted that some negotiation chapters are more complex and require additional time; however, the European Union provides transitional flexibility to meet such standards in areas like financing, human resources, and legislative steps — requiring a timely, step-by-step approach for successful completion. He stressed that political stability and the advancement of reforms go hand in hand.

According to Gjipali, political reforms cannot be effective without sustained political dialogue, proper functioning of institutions, and a well-operating parliament — which plays a crucial role in adopting legislation and overseeing the institutions responsible for its implementation. A lack of dialogue, he warned, can lead to obstacles or delays in the process. He underlined the importance of fostering a constructive political dialogue focused on EU-related reforms. This dialogue is vital because the European Union demands reform stability, which can only be achieved through agreement and cooperation between the majority and the opposition. In practical terms, this requires genuine commitment and engagement from both sides of the political spectrum.
