A2 CNN – Nirvana Deliu: The EU does not make compromises regarding the media concern, November 4, 2025

Nirvana Deliu, Expert on the European integration process at the European Movement for Albania (EMA), during an interview on A2 CNN, analysed the European Commission’s report published on November 4, as well as the progress made in certain areas. At first, Deliu mentioned the positive elements of this report, without forgetting the recommendations that still have not been implemented and the need for electoral reform. Furthermore, Deliu emphasized that Chapter 11 – Agriculture and Chapter 12 – Food Safety remain at a problematic level, with almost no progress made this year. The same can be said for Chapter 27 – Environment, which is expected to be very challenging and requires increased investments and costs.

Although Chapter 28 – Consumer Protection continues to remain problematic, Albania has made steady progress in Chapter 21 – Energy and Chapter 30 – External Relations. Deliu said that there has been a positive assessment of SPAK and the new justice institutions, as well as of the vetting process, which comes as a result of the consistent progress Albania has made. However, fundamental rights such as freedom of expression and media freedom have been left aside, areas in which Albania has continued to make only limited progress for many years. She explains this through factors such as self-censorship, poor working conditions for journalists, etc.

In conclusion, Deliu speaks about the recent Enlargement Summit held in Brussels, which brings together the leaders of EU member states and those of candidate countries aspiring to join the EU. Also important was the message delivered by the President of the European Council, Antonio Costa, through which it was clearly stated that the European Union supports integration and enlargement with new members.
