ABC News Albania – Integration in 2029, optimistic timeframe/ Gjipali: Green light on the path to membership, September 2, 2025

Invited to ABC News Albania, Gledis Gjipali, Executive Director of the European Movement in Albania (EMA) commented on the intensification of Albania’s process towards the European Union. Gjipali emphasized that internal and external factors play a role in the progress of this journey, where among the most primary external factors is the Ukrainian war that not only affects Albania geopolitically, but also in other Balkan countries.

Further, he emphasized that Albania is a country that maintains a positive attitude towards being part of the European Union. This is noticeable in the public discourse, but also in the political one, where we do not have political or social movements that are against the European Union or the membership process. However, the main challenges remain food safety, consumer safety, environmental standards, legislative approximation, as well as the opening of all Clusters by the end of 2027. According to Gjipali, the Intergovernmental Conference, which will take place in September, will be the green light for the opening of the following chapters and where integration in 2029 could be an optimistic deadline.
