OraNews – “Alert” by Granit Sokolaj, Green Line 08002626 and consumer protection, 14 November 2025

On the program “Alert”, broadcast on Ora News and hosted by journalist Granit Sokolaj, a discussion was held on the activities planned within the framework of the project “Green Line for Consumer Protection – Food Safety and Strengthening the Protection of Consumer Rights in Albania through the Empowerment of Local CSOs”, funded by the European Union.

Ermelinda Muçaj, Project Officer at the European Movement in Albania (EMA), emphasized that the Green Line represents one of the most important components of the project currently being implemented. She explained that the Green Line addresses citizens’ complaints through expert support and the provision of free assistance by the “Alert” Center and, in cases where issues are not resolved at this stage with economic operators, it facilitates communication and mediation with the responsible institutions in the country. As stipulated by the Law on Consumer Protection, the relevant institutions and authorities have the primary obligation not only to implement consumer protection policies, but also to ensure the direct protection of consumers’ rights.

In this context, up to this stage of the project, the European Movement in Albania has successfully organised two training sessions in Tirana. Through the engagement of two trainers, participants from various sectors, mainly civil society, were introduced to consumer protection mechanisms, the legislative and institutional framework, European Union directives, as well as ways to engage in the European integration process. This knowledge will also support the upcoming phases of the project, including the organization of four discussion and consultation roundtables within the framework of the Platform for Partnership of European Integration (PPIE).
