EU Presidency handover from Kingdom of Netherlands to the Slovak Republic
Slovakia takes the rotating presidency of the European Union after the Netherlands. At a time when Europe is facing major challenges, such as “Brexit” or migrant crisis, again the process of integrating the Western Balkans remains intact. Milan Ciganik, Ambassador of the Slovak Republic said that Albania has already given a sign that is ready to work for the integration process. During coverage of the agenda, the Slovak Presidency expressed as a top priority the strengthening of the economy of the Union. The second priority is the modernization and creation of a single market in areas such as energy and the digital economy. EU ambassador, Romana Vlahutin emphasized the dialogue on the challenges, but also ensured that the European Union’s commitment to the region will not be affected. Vlahutin made again a call for 21 July, demanding that Albanians voice is heard. Slovakia takes over the EU Presidency after 12 years of participating in union. On September 16 will be held an informal summit of EU leaders in Bratislava.
