MCN TV: Opening of Cluster 6/ Gjipali: Positive claims from the EU Commissioner, 17 December 2024

On December 17, Gledis Gjipali, the Executive Director of the European Movement in Albania (EMA), was invited to MCN TV to discuss the opening of Cluster 6 within the framework of Albania’s EU integration process.  When asked about Marta Kos’ statements, Gjipali interpreted them as positive signals, emphasizing that Albania has stood out in the region in recent years, particularly regarding progress in Cluster 6 related to foreign relations. He highlighted that Albania has consistently aligned with EU policies, a factor contributing to this progress. Gjipali stressed that transparency is essential and always necessary, especially for involving diverse actors, not just political ones. He emphasized the importance of the Parliament in this process, arguing that these institutions should play an active role and not leave all control to the executive. According to him, a fast and high-quality integration process requires institutional balance and cooperation. Asked whether Albania is moving forward securely and about potential challenges, Gjipali stated that Albania is progressing at a fast pace, thanks to its long-standing pro-EU stance and alignment with EU positions. Regarding challenges, he noted that these typically emerge during negotiations when specific measures are required. Gjipali warned that measures related to businesses must be handled with particular care, as they can lead to irreversible consequences once negotiations are concluded. He recommended that Albania should analyse the practices of other countries and involve interest groups to avoid mistakes.
