Public Lecture: Albanian’s road to EU Membership-difficulties, challenges and priorities and the role of young people in accelerating the process
On May 9, 2014, on the framework of Europe Day European Movement Albania in cooperation with University of Tirana, Faculty of Law organized the public lecture: “Albanian’s road to EU Membership-difficulties, challenges and priorities and the role of young people in accelerating the process”. The guest of the event was the Deputy Minister of European Integration Mr. Gentian Elezi
The welcome speech was held by Prof. Assoc. Dr. Evis Alimehmeti, who thanked EMA for the opportunity given to UT students to be involved in many activities of Europe Day. Mr. Gledis Gjipali. Executive Director of EMA expressed the necessary of information of the young generation about the process of integration, as a whole picture of benefits and costs.
The Deputy Minister of European Integration spoke about the challenges of Albania Integration toward EU, the fulfilment of criteria and the possibilities of obtaining the candidate status on June. He brought to the attention the government program on 5 key priorities of Albania for the opening of negotiations, the responsibility of the institutins to raport before the status, the need for cooperation and engagement of all actors involved in the process.
The event was followed by questions from the students. They raised many issues such as: the economic difficulties of Albania to face the European competition, the administrative reform in the country, the importance of a more effective lobbying, the fight against corruption and the functioning of the rule of law
