RTK Radio – FOCUS / Gledis Gjipali – The Executive Director of the European Movement in Albania, 26 March 2024
The Executive Director of the European Movement in Albania, Gledis Gjipali, was invited to RTK Radio to express his opinion on Kosovo’s application to the Council of Europe and how Kosovo’s chances look at this stage. According to Gjipali, Kosovo has good chances, especially after the removal of the obstacles of the property issue that were controversial with the legal process. He stated that the problems related to the associations will be addressed after Kosovo’s membership in the Council of Europe. Gjipali noted that opposition to Kosovo’s membership from some regional countries is anticipated, as each nation prioritizes its own interests in decision-making processes within such institutions. Kosovo’s foreign policy is another important aspect that will help pave the way for EU membership, but requires a lot of commitment and coordination of all the main institutions. Gjipali underscored that he views the reactions of international partners as a delicate matter. The way negotiations happen with European partners is important for Kosovo to have a good strategic approach, coherent position and also clarity in the demands it has. With the return of attention to security issues from the war in Ukraine, there are high hopes that membership of the Western Balkan countries will be achieved by 2030.
