RTSH 1 – Gjipali: The Extension of the Process, the Fault of Politics, 2 October 2024
Invited on the 3D RTSH 1 program, Gledis Gjipali, the Executive Director of EMA, discussed the delays affecting the integration process. He emphasized that political factors are a major cause of the prolonged delays in integration processes, which cannot be solely justified by a lack of adequate human resources. He further stated that the responsibility lies with politics, which requires sacrifices, yet no party has been willing to relinquish its power to advance the process. According to him, there are always instances and excuses that obstruct progress. After a successful period marked by the signing of the Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA), the country has experienced a standstill, transitioning from obtaining candidate status to waiting for negotiations, and now finding itself in a situation with no concrete developments. This process has been lengthy, and it is not due to a lack of human resources. Gjipali raised another significant concern regarding the implementation of undertaken reforms and the production of results, as well as the level of interest that Europe will have in the Western Balkans and Albania. The undertaking of reforms implies a reduction of power, and for this reason, politicians are often unwilling to make sacrifices for the greater good.
