Booklet – Building Trust in the Police Through Ethics, Human Rights, and Public Communication: Experiences of the Academy of the Police Force in Bratislava, May 2026

As part of the National Convention on European Integration (NCEI), within the Working Group on Chapter 24 – Justice, Freedom and Security, the European Movement Albania (EMA) organised a mentoring session with the Security Academy in Albania and Academy of the Police Force in Bratislava, Slovakia, held on 8 April 2026, with the support of the European Union. The session facilitated an exchange of experiences and good practices on modern police education, professional training, institutional capacity-building and innovative educational approaches. This booklet builds on that exchange and presents selected experiences and good practices from the Academy of the Police Force in Bratislava in the areas of ethics, integrity, human rights, public communication and cooperation with different target groups. The publication highlights how police education can contribute to strengthening professionalism and public trust, while preparing future police officers to respond to evolving security challenges and the demands of a democratic society. It also presents practical examples of interactive teaching, experiential learning and virtual reality, alongside approaches for strengthening communication and engagement with citizens. The publication demonstrates the value of international cooperation and the exchange of European good practices in supporting the further development of police education and professional capacities. It provides a practical resource for reflection on how these experiences can contribute to more professional, ethical and citizen-oriented policing in Albania.
