Nirvana Deliu, an Integration Expert at EMA, conveyed her insights on A2 CNN and ABC News Albania, elucidating her profound expertise in Albania’s EU integration process. She highlighted the current auspicious phase as potentially the genesis of robust and equitable negotiations. Despite internal challenges within Albania pertaining to integration, Deliu underscored enduring hurdles posed by EU member states, particularly through veto mechanisms, with Greece’s veto standing out as conspicuously political. Deliu also accentuated Varhelyi’s stance, indicating an inclination towards Albania’s cause, suggestive of the EU’s evolving reformative trajectory. In the expert’s view, EU reform is imperative, aimed at facilitating the integration of diligent states while mitigating unjustifiable vetoes. She noted the incremental eastward outreach of the EU towards partners like Ukraine, Moldova, and Georgia, signalling a broader border openness. Deliu put an emphasis that while EU reform proposals originate from the European Commission without decision-making authority, the Commission and Parliament’s endorsement, coupled with potential acceptance by the European Council, holds considerable significance.
