MCN TV – Integration, Deliu: We have opened 7 chapters in total so far, the EU has increased monitoring intensity, 30 December 2024
Expert on integration issues, Nirvana Deliu, in a Skype interview with MCN TV on December 30, commented on the significant steps Albania has taken this year in its journey toward European Union membership. Deliu stated that Albania has managed to recover lost time, but emphasized that great care is still needed regarding Cluster 1 and the reforms related to it, as the European Union has increased the intensity of monitoring. According to Deliu, monitoring can be seen as a positive step, as it keeps us oriented toward the elements that need to be fulfilled. She also discussed an economic innovation, namely the new Growth Plan, a financial mechanism introduced by the EU for the Western Balkans, which foresees several grants. Deliu listed some of Albania’s achievements in recent years, mentioning the fact that the country has hosted several summits, such as the Berlin Process Summit, which was the first to be held outside the European Union. In conclusion, she highlighted some of the benefits Albania would gain if it becomes a full EU member, pointing out that these benefits have already begun, such as Albania’s inclusion in SEPA, which has automatically lowered transaction fees. In the future, if Albania becomes a member, the country will have a more functional state, more democratic institutions, and a more independent judiciary system.
