Ora News – “Alert” by Granit Sokolaj – World Consumer Rights Day, 14 March, 2025
On March 14, 2025, Gledis Gjipali, Executive Director of the European Movement in Albania (EMA), was a guest on the “Alert” program on Ora News, in the context of World Consumer Rights Day. During the interview, Gjipali was asked about Chapter 28, which pertains to consumer protection, a chapter that has not yet been opened for negotiations in the process of Albania’s integration into the European Union. He expressed the opinion that the opening of this chapter is not far off and that legal shortcomings will emerge, which may require adjustments. He emphasized that this is an area that touches on many elements, and issues may arise that, as a society, we may not yet fully recognise.
Gjipali also touched upon the role of civil society in this field, highlighting two important aspects: firstly, consultation with institutions, which is very important as it involves the opinions of citizens and interest groups, making the process more transparent and open. Secondly, he emphasized the importance of informing citizens, as this process is moving at a fast pace, and citizens need to be informed about the changes and expectations that will come. Regarding the partnership roundtables organized by the European Movement in Albania with institutions, Gjipali noted that the situation is varied: some institutions are very active and engaged in this process, while others take a more formal approach, doing only the minimum required.
