RTSH – Deliu: Chapters 23 and 24 are a decisive condition for the accession process, 25 May 2026

Invited to a political debate on the Albanian Radio Television (RTSH), Nirvana Deliu, Project Director at the European Movement in Albania (EMA), highlighted the importance of the EU–Albania Intergovernmental Conference, scheduled to take place on 26 May. In her analysis, Deliu explained that the Albania–EU negotiations rely heavily on Chapters 23 and 24, which address the functioning of the justice system and the fight against corruption. She stressed that fulfilling the requirements of these chapters depends on effective institutional cooperation. She also clarified the issue of benchmarks, noting that only these two chapters have been assigned “interim benchmarks” following the opening of Cluster 1. Regarding the current stage of the process, Deliu emphasised that EU accession requires more than legislative alignment on paper. It requires informed public participation, a willingness to invest in sectors such as food safety, businesses, and other areas that demand increased financial resources for proper functioning, as well as the effective implementation of reforms in practice.
