Syri TV: Merkel’s farewell tour and the future of the Balkans
EMA’s Executive Director, Gledis Gjipali was invited to Syri TV to discuss Merkel’s farewell tour to Serbia and Albania. He stated that the German foreign policy is very stable and that these meetings reinforce Germany’s further commitment to promote EU values in the Balkan region. Gjipali clarified that the Berlin Process essentially promotes regional cooperation which is encouraged by Germany and other european countries. He described Merkel’s statement in which she declared that Member States should not slow down the integration process when the conditions are fulfilled as an excuse considering that Germany did not succeed in convincing Bulgaria to lift the veto. This penalized North Macedonia and Albania in the EU accession process. Finally, Gjipali said that these meetings in the framework of promoting good neighborhood are merits of Chancellor Merkel’s commitment.
